GEOSS Staff

JULIAN CONRAD (M.Sc.) - GEOHYDROLOGIST
While working for the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) for 11 years, Julian completed an M.Sc. in hydrogeology and GIS at the University of Rhode Island in the USA. In March 2001 Julian established GEOSS. Julian is skilled in groundwater exploration, groundwater development, groundwater monitoring and management.

LOUISE SOLTAU (M.Sc.) - HYDROGEOPHYSICIST
Louise graduated with an M.Sc. from University of Missouri-Rolla (USA) in 2000. Her strengths lie in all aspects of geophysical work, with specialisation in the field of geophysics and groundwater exploration. She has a wide range of geohydrological skills with regard to contaminant hydrogeology as well.

MARILIE CARSTENS (Masters in Environmental Management)- GEOSPATIAL SCIENTIST
Marilie is a GIS/Database specialist. She has excellent skills in computer programming, database development and data management. These skills are being applied in the field of geohydrology and associated disciplines.

DALE BARROW (M.Sc.) - GEOHYDROLOGIST
Dale graduated with a Masters geohydrology degree in 2011 from the Institute for Groundwater Studies, University of the Free State. Dale is responsible for a wide range of groundwater disciplines including geological mapping, borehole siting, geophysical work, drilling and pump testing supervision, hydrocensus work and detailed geohydrological monitoring. Dale has completed projects in numerical groundwater modelling as well.

CHARLES PEEK (B.Sc. - Hon) - GEOHYDROLOGIST & GIS SPECIALIST
Charles is a geohydrologist with a good understanding of geology and a particular skill for groundwater exploration. He has good experience in geological mapping, geophysical techniques, hydrocensus work and groundwater sampling. In addition Charles also has advanced skills in Geoinformatics and has assisted with Validation and Verification projects, especially in the compilation of the spatial data sets.

CORNÉ ENGELBREGHT (M.Sc.) - GEOHYDROLOGIST
Corné is a geohydrologist with emphasis on hydrogeochemistry and environmental geochemistry. He recently completed his Master thesis titled “Hydrogeochemical characterization of groundwater and assessment of hydrological processes using environmental tracers in the Mokolo catchment, Limpopo. Corné is skilled in groundwater sampling, groundwater chemical data analysis and interpretation.

NEVILLE PAXTON (B.Sc. - Hon) - GEOHYDROLOGIST
Neville has a BSc (Hons) in Environmental and Engineering Geology with a specialisation in Geohydrology. He is bilingual and physically strong and is thus well suited for field work. Currently his main role is completing hydrocensus work; borehole sampling (both measuring water levels and taking samples, including sampling for hydrocarbons); geophysical surveys; reading borehole data loggers; borehole drilling supervision and coordination of pumping tests. He also tutored in GIS whilst at the University of Pretoria and therefore benefits the company with his good GIS skills.

STUART BARROW (M.Sc) - CONSERVATION ECOLOGIST
Stuart works as a junior scientist at GEOSS and assists with geohydrological field work. He is mainly involved with the regular reading and processing of borehole data loggers, and producing monthly reports. He also assists with water sampling and has worked on a project which entailed sampling all the springs within the City of Cape Town boundary. He also assists with physical field work as required - for example the installation of piezometers so that groundwater levels and quality can be measured. Stuart loves being in the field and is physically fit enabling him to handle long days of field work. Stuart has also studied GIS and is putting these skills to good use.

KES MURRAY (B.Sc. - Hon) - JUNIOR GEOHYDROLOGIST
Kes has a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Geochemistry with an emphasis on Hydrogeology. He is bilingual and has experience in field work concerned with groundwater sampling, on site groundwater measurements, reading of dataloggers and groundwater exploration using geophysical surveys. Most of his work concerns groundwater monitoring, with emphasis on water table change and hydrochemical data analysis, including hydrocarbon contamination.

CAMERON BRAND (B.Sc.) - JUNIOR SCIENTIST
Cameron has a BSc in Biodiversity and Ecology and a background in project management. Currently his main role is conducting borehole yield tests and analysis of the test data, regular reading and processing of borehole data loggers, and producing monthly reports. He also assists in other field work as required such as geophysical surveys, borehole drilling supervision and hydrocensus work. He is able to benefit the company through being able to complete tough days of field work, process and analyse the data obtained from the field and through his practical experience.

MEGAN CONRAD (B.A.) - FINANCIAL & ADMINISTRATION MANAGER
Megan is responsible for managing the financial and administrative affairs of GEOSS.

ALISON MCDULING - OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR & STAFF SUPPORT
Alison is responsible for office administration and staff support.
